Overview

At Bayut, I worked on various features for both the consumer and Profolio sides, across the web and mobile applications. Some of the features I contributed to include Daily Rentals, Package Upgrades, TruCheck and a Lead Management System. In this case study, I’ll focus on the Daily Rentals feature.

Daily Rentals Feature

Why we added this feature

With the rise of short-term rentals like Airbnb, there was increasing demand for temporary stays. Bayut initially focused on long-term rentals, missing out on users seeking short-term options. Introducing the Daily Rentals feature aimed to capture this growing market and provide an additional revenue stream for agents.

Scope

The feature was designed for both the Consumer platform and Portfolio. Users could easily search and book daily rentals, while agents could list properties on a per-night basis, manage availability, and set pricing in real-time.

Problem

Bayut lacked short-term rental options, leading potential users to other platforms like Airbnb. Agents also had no way to list properties for daily rentals, limiting their market reach.

Solution

  • We introduced a Daily Rentals section:
For Consumers: A new interface for booking short-term stays, with easy search, filtering, and payment options.
  • For Agents: Tools in Profolio to manage daily listings, set prices, and track performance.

Outcome

The feature attracted a new user base, enhanced agent offerings, and helped Bayut compete effectively with other short-term rental platforms.

My Role in Designing Bayut’s Daily Rentals Feature

  • Collaboration with Product Owners: Worked closely with product owners to understand the requirements and goals for the Daily Rentals feature on both the consumer and Profolio sides.
  • Feature Design: Led the design of the Daily Rentals feature, ensuring it aligned with the platform’s overall user experience and business objectives for both consumer and agent interfaces.
  • User Flow Creation: Developed intuitive user flows for consumers to easily search, filter, and book daily rentals, and for agents to manage listings, set prices, and track bookings on Profolio.
  • Responsive Design: Ensured the feature was fully responsive, optimizing the experience across different devices, including mobile and desktop platforms.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Created high-fidelity prototypes for both consumer and Profolio views, across the web and mobile applications conducting usability testing to refine interactions and improve the user experience.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Worked closely with developers to ensure smooth implementation, providing them with detailed design specifications and feedback during development cycles.
  • Iteration and Improvement: Monitored the feature’s performance post-launch, gathering feedback from users and agents to suggest further improvements and enhancements.
